On 2 October 2026, from 2 pm, Kodolányi University hosted a literary and cultural event celebrating contemporary Irish literature and culture at its Budapest campus. The event brought together three distinguished Irish writers: Jan Carson, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne and Justin Quinn. Officially opened by Ireland’s Ambassador, Ragnar Almqvist, the gathering offered audiences an opportunity to explore the richness and diversity of modern Irish writing.
Through readings and a lively discussion, the authors reflected on themes including identity, memory, language, folklore and the relationship between literature and place. Their conversation highlighted how Irish stories and poetry transcend geographical and cultural boundaries, connecting writers and readers across Europe.
The event also celebrated the growing literary links between Ireland and Hungary, particularly through the Hungarian-language anthology Véremben a tenger: ír és magyar költészet (The Sea in My Blood: Irish and Hungarian Poetry), featuring contemporary Irish poets, including Justin Quinn. The gathering underscored the enduring role of literature in fostering cultural understanding and strengthening connections between the two countries.
