“Seizing the day”:
Current Research in Global Englishes
International Conference 28th-29th March, 2022
The conference is organised by Kodolányi János University and it will take place at the campus of the university (Budapest, Frangepán u. 50-56, 1139) between 28th and 29th March, 2022.
The theme of the conference is ‘Global English(es)’, which presupposes that English is no longer the exclusive terrain of the English people, as it has transcended its original role and has come to be used in a number of well-defined variants in all walks of life, including education, science, arts and business. The conference will explore this functional and thematic diversity in search of answers to the question of the role and function of English today.
Two of the conference’s distinguished guests are two masters of the English language: the Irish, Lisa McInerney and the Canadian, Lisa de Nikolits, both acclaimed writers with an excellent knowledge of English, who will offer an insight into the global role of the language, their work and their culture.
The conference will be opened by His Excellency Ronan Gargan, the Irish Ambassador of Hungary.
